HAWERA BAND CONTEST.

PALMERSTON N., October 23. The music for the North Island Brass Band Contest, to be held at Hawera, was opened yesterday by Mr S. M. Cohen, President of the Association. The music is as follows:—Grand selections:—^) Renaull's " Roland a Ronoeveaux" (as arranged especially for the Grand National Bands' Festival (1000 guineas festival) a»t the Crystal Palace); (2) "I/Etoile De Nord," by Meyerbeer, arranged by Rimmer. The Quickstep Competition music will be " Mount Egmont," composed by G. C. Trussell, the Wa/ihi bandmaster. The music is now in the hands of B. Holben, and will be distributed to the various contesting bands immediately. Those who will go to the ballot for the position of judge are:—S. Wolf, Dunedin; F. J. Mellor, Sydney; R. Squarise, Dunedin; W. S. King, Cbrisfcdhuroh; T. Herd, Wellington; E. Hulse, Auckland; and J. Schwartz, Wellington.
