Per Press Association

WOODVILLE, October 20

At the Magistrate's Court here yesterday a young man named Harold Clifford pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a horse, saddle; and bridle, to the value of £35, and" was remanded to Wellington for sentence.

A man charged with being on licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order, set up the defence that the pao?t of the premises he was on, to wit, the stables, were not licensed premises within the meaning of the Act, as the stables were leased by another person than the licensee, and counsel for the defendant submitted that they could not be termed licensed premises. Magistrate James held that they were licensed premises, and fined the defendant 40s and costs.
