Mr. Hunt ley Elliott, Under Secretary for Mines, is aYout to retire on' pension. Mr. Joseph Mackay (well known throughout the district) was entertained at a banquet at Midhurstr prior to his departure to the Old Country on a visit. • Messrs. A. G. Bignell, F. M. Spurdle and N. Meuli leave to-day for Timaru, where the annual meeting of the Federated Builders' Association will be held.
