Stepson's dam, Biritomarte, is a full sister to Euroclydon. Lady Gertrude, the dam of Britomarte, was also the dam of Blizzard, La Reine, Mistral (dam of Pampero) and Mist (dam of Vladimir). Lady Gertrude was by Cadogan, son of Cremorne, out of a Traducer mare. No Name, who was the dam of Oudeis, winner of the C.J.C. Welcome and C.J.C. Derby. Disowned, C.J.C. Derby and Great Northern Derby, also Nonsense, winner of many races. Stepniak is the sire of Menschikoff, Kremlin, Boa-is, Orloff, Madrigal, Petrovna, Ost-iak, and a host of others, the stock having won the C.J.C. Welcome Stakes, C.J.C. Derby, C.J.C. Cniampagn, C.J.C. Champion Plate, Middle Park Plate, Electric Plate, Juvenile Plate, Canterbury Cup, Dunedin Gup, Duredin Champagne, Auckland Derby, Great Northern Foal Stakes, Royal Stakes, Hawke's Bay Guineas, Wellington Stakes, Wellesley Stakes, and numerous handicaps. MALATTJ A, MALATUA (8) by the mighty Malua (3), winner of the Melbourne Cup, dam Faithful, by Dafriwell (26), also a winner of the Melbourne Cup, is a rich bay horse, foaled in 1895. He stands 16^ hands and possesses plenty of bone and substance, and moi'eover is free from blemish, and is one of the handsomest and healthiest horses in the country. His performances stamp him as a most sucaessful and speedy racehorse, and are too recent to need recapitulation here, as they may be seen by reference to the Turf Register. Malvolio, also a winner of the Melbourne Cup, is by Malua, and a sire of many winners on the flat and over hurdles. According to the "Bruce Low" figure system, Malatua (8) is a sire horse by Malua (3), St. Albans (2), Blair Athol (10), son of Stockwell (3), Peter Wilkins (3), Flying Dutchman (3), and Bay Middleton (10). He traces Lack on his sire's family to one of the^ most saccessful lines in the Stud Book On his dam's side, Darriwell (26), Tim Whiffler (3), Van Galen (5), Conrad 11. (o), Lecturer (2), Calsterdale (18), and Lacydes (3) are figures worth mentioning, being of running and sire families which is a great combination. MALATUA is a male' descendant of the Byerly Turk, and 'the tap root of the pedigree is "The Bustler Mare."
