OAMARU, October 19. The North Otago Jockey Club's Spring Meeting commenced to-day, the weather being good in the morning, but rain fell after 3 o'clock. The attendance was good, and the sum of £2075 put through the totalisator. Results:—
Spring Handicap, 4 furlongs.—Canticle 1, Canada 2, Mango 3. Also started: Ostaehkoff 9.1, Boscastle 9.0, Vardo 8.13, Cuirrosettia 8.13, Buccleuch 7.12, Miss Hamilton 7.12, Rosebloom 7.8, Narrangarie 7.7, Lady Paradise 7.7, Harvest 7.11. Won by a length and a half. Time, 51 sees. Dividends, £2 10s. and £1 16s. Redcastle Welter, 50 soys., 6 furlongs.—Brighton 1, Heirloom 2, Bombastes 3. Also started, Notus 9.1, Matuku 9.0, Bluestone 8.6, Carlo 8.7, Gypsob&l 8.0, Radium 8.0. A great race. Won by half a head. Time, 1 mm. 20 sees. Dividends, £3 12s. and £1 16s.
