Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report:— Tho opening sale of the above company was held yesterday afternoon, in their Nixon street store. A full muster of local and outside buyers (Wellington, Palmerston, and Taranaki) attended, and made things "hum," as a perusal of the subjoined list will show. Considering how busy farmers are just now, the catalogue submitted was highly satisfactory, while prices realised should be very pleasing to clients. Our catalogue consisted of some 1300 hides, besides tallow, horns, bones, horse hair, etc. Wool made 9|d for

crossbred, crutchings up to 6|d, and dead Bsd per lb. Sheepskins.—Prims crossbred to B|d, half-woolled sound pelts to S{d, short woo'a to 7-Jd, butchers' green skins to 8s each, pelts to 3s. 6d. Hides.—Good ox to 255, medium ox 18s to 245, prime cow to 19s, medium goiv 13s to 18s, calfskins to 4s 66d. It' was noticeable" that a largo proportion of farmers' hides and some butchers were not well got up. A little more care in flaying and salting would handsomely repay our friends. Taiiow.—Casks to 20s per cwt.
