Lord Lansdowne declines to make any oommuniioatdon to the Press regarding irresponsible newspaper statements, though it is fully admitted in political cia*cles that, in the event of an unjustifiable attack on France, Britain would be prepared to translate 'her professions of friendship into actual support.

A semi-official statement published iv Berlin1 implies that Germany has accepted Lord Lansdowne's spontaneous declaration that Britain made no offer to France. The incident is considered olosed. ,
