At the annual dinner of the Chamber of Manufactures the Hon. Alfred Deakin announced that when the time came the issue to be put before the people would be a tariff revision with the express purpose of encouraging Australian industries of every bind. Consideration would he given to preferential^ trade within the Empire. In fact, negotiations were now proceeding with Canada and South Africa to that end.
