Wellington Wool Sales.

An Advance on November

Prices.

Messrs. Levin and Co., Limited, re-port:—-The frr&ifc sale of the new reason's wools was held to-day, the various brokers offering ~~.5 bales, of which our catalogue comprised 835 bales. There was a good attendance of (buyers, local and English. '±ne selection of wools was an excellent one, and the condition oi the -staple good. There had been expectation of high prices up to a fortnight ago ; when signs of irregularity in other centres led those watching the -market to look for an easier tone. The advices from London received yesterday was of a fall, greater than was generally anticipated, and particularly heauvy on our coai'se crossbreds. It is disaippointisng to see wool recede from the recent high values just as the new clip is to be marketed, but the fall still leaves prices at a considerable advance on last year's values, and we do not think growers have any reason to complain of the prices bid today, as they appear to >be quite up to the current London range. It is for growers to consider well; before declining to take aidvantage of prices now offered to risk the possibility o>f a further fall before the wool is sold.

The advance as compared with last November oh fine crossbreds is. l^d per lib, and on (medium crossbreds l^d and l-$d per lb., and on coarse crossbi'eds 2d per lb., and a feature of the sale was the comparatively high prices paid for inferior wools.

The fol'jovying will show the movement of- prices as compared with the sale held in November last year, to-day's prices being in parenthesis.—'Merino, last year B£d to 9id, to^dtiy none offering; haMbred tyd to 7d (7d to 7^d); superfine crossbred, 5d to s^d (7d); medium crossbred and Romney. 4£d to 5d (6^d to 6|d); coarse crossbred Liincolns, 4d to 4|d (6id to 6|d); logstained and inferior, 3d to 4d (s^d to 6d); pieces and bellies. 2d to ck\ (3d to 4^d); locks, Id to 2d (lid to 3d).

The following are some of the prices realised. Where the same clip was sold here last year the price then obtained is given in parenthesis : —AJC, 6£d (sd); FB/B, 6*d (4?d); Putahi, 6jd (4|/d); FC/F. 6|d ; Tehopar, 6|d ; Rocks, 6|d (6Jd); Rocks, half bread, 7^d (6id); FHD. 6^d (Od); .Ja. 6^h (4|d); Te VVxiiti. 6|d; AHR, 6|d (4|d); Hukanui, 6fd (sd); N/MB, 6id; ; TJS, 6|d (4|d); Anchor, first 7d, halfbred 7d, threequariter biied 6Ad; Taupo. 6|d; VVC, 6W (4id).
