The Hesteton Estate Case.
CHRISTCHURCH, November 27. The case of Garrick v. Copland, arising out of the sale of t»h© liesteton Estate,, was continued to-day, Mr Harper concluding the evidence for the defendant early in the afternoon. ' Mr Skerrett submitted that) there was no case calling for rebutting evidence, as fraud was not proved by the defendant, and no evidence had been adduced of conspiracy between Garrick and Matson and Co. .
Judge Denniston said that if the^case were before a jury he could not direct that the plaintiff was entitled to a nonsuit on the defendant's affirmative evidence, but) it was optional for the plaintiff to close his case and rely on legal points. Mr Skerrett asked for time to consider, and the case was adjourned till tomorrow.,

WELLINGTON, November 27. In the Supreme Court this morning, Thomas Chasland, found guilty of causing bodily harm, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. John Clark, for causing bodily harm by shooting, got a similar sentience.
