(Reoeived November 4, 10.20 p.m.) MELBOURNE November 3 The deputation from the farmers 1 conference waited upon the Premier, Mr Gillies, to-^ay, relative to protecting the agricultural and stock-raising interests of Victoria. Mr Gillies informed the deputation that he would lay the matte* before his colleagues, but he feared some of their proposals could not be ascertained. The usual weekly wool sale of the New Zealand Load and Mercantile d-gency Company (Limited) took place to-day, when 4600 bales were submitted at auction in the preseaca of a large attendance of buyers. A spirited competition was manifested, and the prices ruling were about equal fco those cf last - week's sales. A parcel of Western District greasy lambs' wool, realized 12£ d per pound ; merino combing, 10d ; and scoured as much as I6£d, (Received November 4, 2.30 p.m ) . - > November 4 The deputation from the farmers' conference, which waited ou the, Premier yesterday, asked that a duty of 25 per cent be imposed on aU cattle imported into the colony ; 3 a duty upon imported barley, wheat, oats, peas,. and maize ; £1 par ton on potatoes ; 4d per pound on butter, cheese, and ham, Mr Gillies, in promising to l.*y the views of the conference before his colleagues, added that the Government had already promised to submit to Parliament next session a proposal for the revision of the existing tariff, by which interests farmers receive serious consideration. There is every probability of the con-, fereaoe to be held in London on Wednesday between the Agents-General of the various oolonies and the Chancellor of the Exchequer and PostmasterGeneral resulting in thefiaal settlement of the postal dispute, (iieoeived November 4, 1.20 a.m;) SOB&RT. November 3 It has been ascertained that the fresh case of smallpox occurred near Launceaton. _ No new cases have been reported in this neighbourhood.
