HOSPITAL AND CHARTIABLE AID BOARD.

A meeting of the United Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday, Mr Feat presidiug. Present — Messrs Sanson, Hunter, Außtin, Peat, Straohan, Remington, and Patterson. The minutes of the previous meeting were react and confirmed. Jubilee Home.— A letter was received from the secretary of the ladies' committee of the Old Men's Borne; asking whether if the money they had collected were handed over to the'board, the board would agree to the following conditions: — 1. That the ladies' com* mittee should be consulted as to the building to be erected, and the rules. 2. That anyone nominated by the committee should have a preference over another. 3, That the committee should have access to the home at any time. 4. That the committee should have power to veto any proposed change in che rules. — The Chairman stated that with the secretary he had interviewed the ladies' committee, and he moved, That the board regret that they bannot accede to conditions No 1, 2, and 4, embodied in the letter of the 21st, but that that they can accede to the other condition, and that the board will be glad of any assistance of the ladies in establishing the home.— Seconded by Mr Patterson. — In answer to Mr Austin, the Chairman stated that if the board took the money they would get 24s on the pound from Government; The Chairman thought there was no doubt but that a home was necessary, The ladies' oommittee bad eolleoted a sum of money, and wanted the board to take charge of the project, but they (the ladies) wished ro have the management.— Mr Sanson agreed that a home was necessary, and that the building could be erected on a part of the Hospital Beserve juat purchased.—The Chairman thought it was their business to maintain these people, who required keeping as cheaply as possible, consistent with a moderate degree of comfort. He thought they should see whether they could maintain these people cheaper in a home than by aid. There were a number of people in the hospital who were more fit to be in a home. — Mr Eemington thought as there was a chance of subdivision that the rate for a house would be much higher* —The Chairman thought the Patea people should take steps to have their charitable aid separated if the Eangitikei were also to be separated. — Mr Sanson said the local bodies could ad' minister their own charitable aid. If ibe district were reduced it would come that each looal body would have to administer its own charitable aid. — ■ The motion was then put and carried.
