Saturday, 23kd June. (Before 11. Ward, Esq., R.M.) The Putiki Assault Case. — Harry Williams applied for a rehearing of the charge of assault and of the application for sureties o£ the peace, brought against him by Kobinson Coupe on Tuesdaj' last. — The applicant pointed out that ho was arrested for debt just as the case was called on, and taken up to gaol, the charge being heard in his absence, without his having an.opportunity of defending himself or showing that Coupe and not he (the applicant) was the aggressor — Mr Hutchison, on behalf of Coupe, offered no objection to the rehearing, though he considered that it was the applicant's fault that he had not paid his debts, and was prevei.ted from attending.—His Worship thought that Williams ought to have an opportunity of showing cause, and granted a rehearing, but intimated that it would be confined to whether Williams had com mitted a breach of the peace, and that the Court would not enter into auy question of title as to the land at Putiki where the alleged assault took place. — The rehearing was granted for Saturday next, on the applicant paying the costs of the former hearing, and depositing £3 to cover those of future proceedings. A Too Common Charge. — Anne Fowler, ulius Anne Gann (a visitor from Palmerston), was charged on the information of Charles Platt, carpenter, with using indecent language -ft.iuin the hearing of a person in a p:;'>!ic street. There was a second inform .lion of the same nature against the defoudaut, laid by Sergeant Bissett. — The summonses not having beeu served, tho cases were adjourned for a week. Breaches of By-Laws. — Thotras Hollywood, as the owner of four horses found ' wandering on the Kiver Bank, was fined £1, and 7s costs. — Samuel Vincent, for a horse on Taupo Quay, was fined ss, and 7s costs. — David Lynn, as the owner of two cows and one horse found wandering in Ball -street and Glasgow.-stroot, was fined 15s, and 7s costs. — John Wells, as the ownar of a goat wandering in Glasgow-street, was fined 53, and 7s costs.- — George Hanuington, for one horse in Ingestre-street, was fined ss, and 7s costs. — Frederick Histed, summoned for three goats in Glasgow - street, pleaded guilty to owning two only. He was fined 10s, and 7s costs. The Court then adjourned.
