FURTHER PARTICULARS.

The New Zealand Times o£ Saturday' last contains the following particulars of this strange tragedy: — Mr James Lomas, a butcher, whois well-known in the city, went to his house about 5 o'clock, and had a quarrel wijh his wife, during which, it is said, she upbraided kirn with having lost money in some land speculations during the last two or three years. After a time Mrs Lomas went to the house of a neighbour named Cox, taking no notice of a threat uttered by her hushand that he would shoot himself. A few minutes afterwards the report of a gun was heard, and afterl searching Lomas's house, his body was '; found in a small paddock adjoining.' beside an/ empty case, a doublebarrelled gun lying beside it. The ins f erence is that Lomas sat dorm, on the box, tied a boot -lace to the trigger of the gun and to one of his feet, and then discharged it into his mouth. The charge came out above his left ear, and must hare caused instantaneous death. Lomas was in business in Wellington for a considerable time, and there was never any reason to suppose he would ever think of doing violence to himself. He leaves several children. A constable was despatched last night to take charge of the body, and to inquire into the circumstances surrounding the occurrence, and an inquest will be held this after noon.
