THE LYELL MURDER CASE.
VERDICT AND SENTENCE.

In the Lyell murder case the jury retired at midnight, and after an absence of forty-five minutes returned a verdict of manslaiihter. Prisoner, in reply to the Judge, said he been convicted on the oath of a perjured prostitute and two perjured constables. The Judge sentenced him to penal servitude for life, saying at the same time the jury had taken a very merciful view of the case, as the evidencs fully justified a verdict of wilful murder. The case has created a lot of excitement. Tho Court was crowded the whole time.
At the Supreme Court Mary Grammatica was arraigned on the charge of having been an accessory after the fact 'to the murder of Denis Quinlau. The Crown PrreeiHtor offered no"e< 'denee, and the jury returned a verdict of " Not guilty." In discharging the prisoner, His Honor said that he was convinced she was innocent of the murder, and us to the charge of being an accessory waß more sinned against than sinning, hut she excited the passion of the men and led up to crime. He hoped that when she left she would consider the depraved and disgraceful life she had led, and would lead a better life.
