(PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.; AUCKLAND. November 4. A ten-roomed house, Mr Hadfield's Temperance Hotel, at Waiwera, was burned to-day. It is insured in the Imperial for £200, and the furniture for £100. William Henry Crossley, son of a deceased clergyman at Katikati. was committed for trial for obtaining goods on false pretences. Arthur Pawcett was arrested on a warrant by telegram from Sydney, churged with "inbezzling £25 in Sydney. Prisoner 3aid the arrest was made to ruin his prospects in New Zealand. He was remanded on bail for eight days. The City Council's half-yearly accounts show the receipts to the general account ta have been £10,817. At a public meeting yesternight it was decided to form a New Zealand Association for the repeal of the Contagious Diseases Act. WELLINGTON. November 4. The Girls' High School opens here on January 24th. The nominations for the Wellington Cnp close on Monday night, at ten o'clock. It has not yet been decided what y.icht will represent Wellington at the Ly ttelton Regatta, but either the Thistle or the Oamma will be sent. The Star Club will also send a crew down to compete in the principal event. Another Mormon meeting is advertised to-night. November 5. A second Mormon meeting was held here last night. A shilling admission was charged. A scene of great disorder took place, and the elders vigorously denounced the audience. CHRISTCHURCH November 5. The storm has cleared off, and the weather is now bright and drying. The circus could not show last night. The attendance was very poor at the amateur opera performance. LYTTELTON. November 4. There was a fine attendance at tho opening of the Art Society's Exhibition to-day. It has been decided to hold a regatta at Port Chalmers on Boxing Day. DUNEDIN. November 4. At the monthly meeting last week of the council of the Trades Labour Council the secretary was directed to forward the following resolutions to the members of the House of Representatives : — (1) That this council gratefully acknowledge the efforts of all those members of the Legislature during the past session of Parlicementwho have manifested such (in interest in the prosperity of the working class as to vote for all liberal measures calculated to improve their condition. (2.) That this council specially acknowledges the services of Messrs Green, Bracken, Fish, Bathgate, and Barron in endeavouring to pass into law the various measures set forth in the council's political programme.
