WANGANUI FIRE BRIGADE.
ANNTJAL TOURNAMENT...".:; , The annual tournament :of the Wanganui Fire Brigade took place on Saturday afternoon. The weather was all that could bo desired, and the different competitions were witnessed by a large number of spectators. The brigade mustered at their station, St. HUI-strpet; at 3 o'clock, and from thence proceeded to Taupo Quay, in drags,' with their hose reek and hook and ladder attached, headed by the City Eiflesbandi' ".Owing to a number of the members of if p.' 2 Company being .absent [from/ town,' 'the foreman of that company decided not to atart his men for any of the competitions. The Fire Police were in attendance and • kept the street clear while the tourna-ment-took place. At intervals • during the afternoon the C% Rifles Band played a number of selections. Captain Cummins and Lieutenant ' Spindle acted as judges, and Messrs Drew and : Kohn as timekeepers. The name's of the members of the companies who competed are as follows :— No. 1 Company —Foreman Thurlow, Firemen Wiods, Hackett, Copeland, M. Blyth, W. Blyth, Kitchen, Devenport, Keesing, andßeddell. No. 3 Company — Foreman Bush, Firemen Shavpe, James, McGonagle, Beauchamp, Wild, Thomas, . Hogg, Townsend, and West^ Alarm Competition. — Seven men from eaoh company, dressed in plain clothes, will start from a point 50 yards from their uniforms, consisting of cap, tunic, belt, and spanner ; after dressing, bring their reel from a point 100 yards distant to the dressing point. Best time to win. No. 1 Company; 43 1-osecs. No. 3 Company, 42 4-sseos. ', Hojie; Competition-. — Ten men from each company ran 100 yards with the reel to the fire plug, laying out 120 feet of hose. Branch fixed, and full jet turned on, 4 points. Keel orer a similar J* me and connect to stand-pipe, and play' full .jet through both lines, 3 points. Make tip and return with reel to starting point, 2 points. Company. Ist water. I 2nd water.
