The Marquis of Normanby received a telegram yesterday announcing the death of his mother, the Dowager Marchioness of Normanby, at the age of 84. The schooner Yarra, bound from Newcastle to Melbourue, became a total wreck at 3 o'clock this morning. All on board have been saved. The death iB announced of Mr John Hydes, the well-known actor. (Received Oct. 23, 9.50 a.m.; The following additional horses have been scratched for tbe Melbourne Cup : — Aide -de - Camp, Attache, Bryan O'Lynn, Gardenea, Hobart, Ironmaster, Mistake, Nautilus, Proctor, Prattle, and Rupert. The betting is unchanged, with the exception of Drummer, whose price has declined, owing to an accident, to 100 to 1. SYDNEY. October. 23. Heavy rain is falling, and is extending throughout the colony. It is doing incalculable gooi and reviving the hopes of squatters aud farmers.
