SHOCKING- DEATH FROM HYDROPHOBIA.

* . I A young miner, named Morran, resicU ing Upper Ballooliney, near Airdrie, died in terrible agony from hydrophobia. About two months ago Morran was bitten in the month by a dog which was running about the country in, a ■ rabid state, but he paid little attention to the wound, as it speedily healed up. He was able to attend to his work, and appeared to be in his usual health until Wednesday last, when, pains in the bead, accompanied with spasms, began to manifest themselves, and as they | increased in intensity, medical aid" was ; obtained. Dra lUnkin and Cullen, from Airdrie, visited the unfortunate victim of' the terrible malady several times, but so malignant had the disease become that nothing could be done but to administer soothing medicaments, which was accordingly done. Morran at length got so outrageous that he rose from the bed and smashed all -tha furniture in the room, and ultimately . it took seven or eight men- to hold him down. His struggles were of the most frantic description, and he barked and howled like a dog in the most painful manner. (During the course of Saturday night he began to vomit, and his system, showed sigas of extreme weakness, as he had taken no food for three days, and his agonising struggles would have weakened the strongest frame. A few hours before he died he recovered con« aeiousness, and recognised his frioncls. He said he knew he was dying," but spoke in a hopeful manner. At last a heavy shudder ran through bis frame, a deep convulsion overpowered him, and he gasped his last in great pain. What adds still further to the very painful nature of the death of the young man is the fact that he was nearly the sola support of widowed mother, the' rest of the members of the family being married.—Aberdeen Journal, June 12. .

— ■ ' A man, complaining of being turned out of a concert-room, said that he was fired . with indignation. "If you wera fired," added a bystander, "perhaps that was the reason they put you out."
