May 17. Per Merchant Shipping and Underwriters' Association. — Arrived — Liu'line, from Napier ; left January 24th. It has bean announced thab the measures to be introduced by tlio Gladstone Ministry, having reference to Ireland, will be confined to legislation for roliei of the distress existing in that country. The Australians cotnmanced their second match to-day at Derby, where they met eleven of Derbyshire. The Australians went first to the wickets, and scored 129 in their innings. Binnerinau made tho top score of 3'J. The English team then went in, and the Australians succeeded in getting them all out for 4s runs. In the first iunings Spofforth and Palmer each took live ! wickets. Tho Derbyshire men then followed their innings, and when tho stump 3 wero drawn for tho day they had made 21 runs with the k>B3 of one wicket. The wo>.ther during the wholo day's play was line, and tho ground was lively, and suited the Australians.
