„,, -n May 10. I lhe Eastern mail steamer Somerset has arrived from Singapore with the Torres Straits mail, and brings the following items of Eastern news :— War between Russia and China i 3 becoming increasingly imminent. The latter country is in a disturbed condition, and trade is much prejudiced thereby. At tho northern ports the Chinese Government are making warlike preparations, and pushing forward their armaments, whilst Russia is placing an army on the Kuldja frontier.
