Monday, June 2sd. (Before E. Hardcastle, Esq., R.M.) BREACHES OF THE BOKOUGH BY LAWS. Alexauder Dow, for allowing five horses belonging to him to wander- at large, was fined 5s for each, and costs 7s. John Edwards, for allowing four cows ; belonging to' him to waider, was fined' ss/ lor each animal, costs 9s, and one' witness' SS. ;...!■.. David Conchie, charged with' obstruct* ing Keith Street, by tethering » horse there, pleaded guilty, and was fined sa, and costs 9s. Thomas Harwtod, charged' with.allowing the chimney of his house to be on fire, was fined ss, and c ta"93.", STEALING FROM. A DWELLtKG. James Welsh, a Jad apparently about eleven years of age, was charged, on the information of J. H. Harper, with haviag stolen a sum of money from the dwelling house of the latter on the 21st May. The boy, on beiug asked how he pleaded, said he did not do it, it was another boy. ; The prosecutor, having been sworn, stated that he lived in Campbell Street ; he knew the accused, who lived on the sandhill; on the 19th May witness put away certain moneys, amounting to £6, in £1 notes ; put them in a book-case in his siiting-room; on the following Friday, the 23rd of May, went to the base, and took out the box in which he had placed the notes, and found, the money was gone j suspected some children ; asked a neighbour about it j from information teoeived went to, accused on the 26th May, and promise 4 that if he would con ' fess, he would forgive him ; the boy said he had not done it j asked him wuero he got the money to buy a football he had got; accused said he had found a half-a-crown, and bought the ball from Montague's ; witness knew the accused had bought several articles, and ipund on inquiry that he.had!' given half a guinea for the baftv /" ,V : \ '' William ;I Rbbei'ts, "a M boy; seemingly about eight years' old, Baid he livdd in ! Ths prosecutor stated Lhat a witness, who had seen the accused aud the joung fll^bfrts' enter his house ia company on the 23rd May ; had not put in an appear ance ; ho must therefore ask for a reTtiand, although he would be just as wrli .pleased if his Worship would dismiss the cage, as Jiis only, object in bringing it was that it might act as a caution to' the lads. His Worship said he preferred hearis^ the whole of the evidence, as from that already given it appeared that the accused, had exercised a pernicious influenoe upon another boy upon whom he afterwards wished to throw the wholsblame.
