VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The following promotions, &c, have lately been made in the VVanganui Cadet corps : — Honorary Sub-Lieutenant P. I), Hogg to honornry Lieutenant; ColorSoi'getint Jiunc-i Sim to be honorary Sub Lieutenant. These young gentlemen have just received their appointments from the Hon the .Native Minister. Sergeant Chisholm has been made Color-Sergeant; Corporals T. Han kin and W. JJroughton, and Cadet W. Moore have all been made Sergeants; and Cadets E. OJarke, W. Kitchen, and James Wilkinson Corporals. The coips is vow looking up, and a very fair muster takes place avevy Wednesday evening, under SergeautMajor Bezar, who is thus encouraged to devote as many evenings as they like to meet. The parades take place at an hour when very few boys are at their employments. We hoax-, and this is as it should be, that all who do not attend these drills will bo stvur.k off the roll. Veiy little mil good to a corps would accrue if half only were efficient. We congratulate Captain Neiil on the prospect that exists of his '

commanding what we hope will ere long be one of the smartest cadet corps in the colony. We hear that a neat and appropriate souvenir has been sent for to present to the Sergeant-Major, whose energetic discharge of his duties has entitled him to some such mark of recognition.
