CUSTOMS RETURNS.
The amount of revenue received at the Custom House, Wanganui, on goods cleared for home consumption, during the week ended Saturday, June 16th, was £254 18s 2d. This amount is made up as follows :—
With the exception of two others, this is tho lowest week dming the past nine months, beyond which we have no record to which wo can readily refer. The total revenue for the past four weeks represents £1,423, or a little over a weekly average of £350. As against the_ customary average of £500 for a similar period, this falling off is very marked. In other words, our Customs' revenue for tho past four weeks is not equal to the amount formerly collected in a period of three weeks. We_ regret that our hopeful anticipations of having to record a fluctuation with a tendency to improve, givosuch little promise of being realised. The result above is certainly not a subject for congratulatory contemplation.
