WAVERLEY HALL EXTENSION.
\ (To the Editor of tlie Chronicle.) Sib, — Prom your "Own Correspondent's" report, in yesterday's issue, of the meeting held on Saturday night last, it would appear that the said meeting was convened for the • purpose! ' of deciding ! whether a Church should be erected, or the Town Hall enlarged. This is misleading. The meeting was merely to decide whether the hall should or should not be enlarged ; and it is,, a pity that the movers in the enlargement question should have dragged the Church into the discussion. - All here know that it was not the primary object "to provide for greater accommodation for Divine Service.' The erection of a Presbyterian Church was long before a settled question, and the young ladies of St. Andrew's congregation have been at work for some months preparing |[f or a bazaar, to come off in March next, in aid of that object. The managers are collecting subscriptions for the same, and already a goodly sum has been subscribed. Friends at a distance will shortly be asked to lend a helping hand to remove the reproach from the district, which has seven hotels and no church. Visitors must think that the inhabitants are devoted worshippers of Bacchus, as there is nothing within the bounds publicly to indicate a church-going and Sabbath-keeping com- ! munity. Many desire to see a church erected in this town, and are willing to help in the matter ; but there are doubtless some in the district -who appear to consider that " The time has not come ; the time that the Lord's house should be built." — Tours, &c, Justice. Waverley, 27th October.
