Oct. 20. Nothing definite is known as to our Government's communication with New Zealand in reference to the Pacific Mail Service. There is no probability of the service collapsing, as the English and Colonial Steamship Company have offered to undertake the contract. The following are the acceptances for the Melbourne Cup : —Volo Verus, Marchioness, Bella Macgregor, Torchlight, Publicity, New Minister, Fanny Rush, Sultan, Pride of the Hills, Valentia, Clifton, Napoleon, Electricity, Spark, Imperial, Spring-Jack, Canterbury, Sterling. Onyx, Rapid Bay, Disraeli, Janitor, Irish Stew, Emulation, Impudence, Feu de Artifice, Fisherman, Gloom, Dilke, Vaiu Hope, Deer, Sybil, Southern Cross, Breises, Elmoro, Gas, Aldinga, Glengary, Kismit, and Timothy.
