AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKET.
Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Weekly Report. Horses.— The demand is continuous, but tho supply of good ones is very limited. On Friday, the supply was scarcely so large as the previous week, hut the demand was steady and little alteration in value. As usual, the Poverty Bay horses attracted considerable attention, . and, although not of a very good description, sold high, as compared with local horses. We quote : Hacks, from £6 to £11 ss; light harness, from £15 to £26 ss. Cattle. — Both supply and demand have been good, and, with the exception of dairy cows, prices have had an upward tendency. There was a large muster at Newmarket on Tuesday. Dairy cows were not well represented, and were a shade lower in value. For well-bred stores in fresh condition there was an upward tendency, and beef advanced 2s 6d per 1001 b .; dairy cows, from £7 to £9 12s 6d; store cows, £3 15s to £6; yearlings, from £2 10s to £.3 7s, 6d ; 2 and 3 year old steers, £4 10s to £6 ssf 4 year old steers in fresh condition, £8 5s to £9 10s each. Sheep. — The Newmarket yards were well filled, and prices advanced on last week's quotations. Best wethers sold at 225 ; second quality, 15s 9d to 18s 6d ; lambs, from 8s to 12s 3d each. Pigs — Were in excessive supply, and generally of coarse description, consequently prices were lower. — * Herald,' Oct, 14.
