VALEDICTORY DEMONSTRATION TO SIR JULIUS VOGEL.
[VZR PRESS AGENCY.] Wellington, Oct. 18. There was a large attendance at the theatre this afternoon, especially of ladies, to witness the presentation by the Mayor . to Sir Julius Vogel on behalf of the - citizens of Wellington. The Mayor, after making an appro- ] priate speech, read an address, which '' expressed regret at losing one who so J largely and beneficially influenced the ■ condition of the colony, and asked his ' acceptance of the accompanying token of their regard, and which probably would . have been in a different form and of * greater value had time allowed. He then <; handed Sir Julius Vogel a draft for £500, k stating that as the subscription list was not yet closed a handsome addition would be made to that sum before Sir Julius Yogel left the colony. Sir Julius Vogel read a written reply to the address, expressing the warmest thanks for the flattering address and the kind wishes for himself, Lady Vogel, and family, and while expressing regret at d leaving New Zealand, he was not without b hope that he mi^ht be able to return to s it.
