Correspondence.

A NECESSARY CORRECTION

TO THE EDITOR OF THE WANGANUI CHRONICLE.

Mr Editor,— l feel certain that many of my friends will say that I am foolish to notice anything that appears in the Wanganui Times, as it is impossible that anything coming from such a source can either injure or elevate. But my excuse for noticing a letter in that paper of the Bth inst., signed “Anti Logwood,” is that it is not my custom to allow any charge or implied inconsitency to pass unchallenged. In this case I shall’ treat that portion of the letter refering to Provincialism with the contempt it deserves, and only notice the sentence where the writer says “ Mr M. took care this time not to interfere with the 1 SelfReliant Policy.’ Why ? Because he has been promoted, made an officer of, and it might have cost him his Commission.” Sir, iam not aware that I have, at any time, addressed the public on the Self-Reliant Policy. I frankly acknowledge that I am an advocate for a Self-Re-liant Policy. I have taken the liberty to state that I have ever endeavoured to be consistent, both on Provincial and General Government matters ; and as I stated, I have not changed my views on Provincialism one iota. I say the same in reference to the Self-Reliant Policy of the General Government. And to put my accuser to the test I shall only add that if “ Anti Logwood ” (what a name ! he must have been thinking of Mr Fox’s lecture, and adulterated port) will engage the Odd Fellows’ Hall for an evening, call a public meeting, and invite me to attend, I will accept the invitation, and explain my views on a Self-Reliant Policy to the best of my ability, regardless of consequences. I am, &c., John Morgan.
