Gathering Postponed.
A farewell gathering which was to have been held in honour of Mr Morgan Mulvaney at Kaituna last night was postponed owing to the illness of Mr Mulvaney. “Dig for Victory.”
A Masterton soldier who is home on leave was well repaid for his labour, in his garden during the week. First he unearthed a commemoration cross relating to the 60th year of the reign of Queen Victoria. Then two days later he dug up half a sovereign, dated 1878, and which' he states is now worth £1 Is 9d.
Warrant 22 Years Old. A labourer, aged 62, a warrant foi’ whose arrest was issued 22 years ago. appeared in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday on charges of obtaining £2 and £1 by stating that he had a credit balance in his account al the I’osl Office Savings Bank. Detec-tive-Sergeant J. Thompson said a warrant; had been taken out for the arrest of accused in 1921, but owing to the lapse of time the necessary evidence was not now available. The only thing he could do was to ask that the charge be withdrawn. This was done.
