GRASS FIRES

TWO OUTBREAKS THIS MORNING. The Masterton Fire Brigade turned out at 10.15 o’clock this morning to a grass fire which had broken out in an area of several acres adjacent to the railway line near Oxford Street, Lansdowne. The fire was promptly put out. The fire is believed to have been caused by sparks from the burning off operations which were being carried out alongside the railway line. Later in the morning the brigade was called out, at 11.50 a.m. to a minor grass fire on a section adjacent to a house property at 55 Bannister Street.
