WEDDING
NEWTON—McCANN. St. Matthew’s Church, Masterton, was the scene of a quiet wedding on Monday afternoon when Ethel May, daughter of Mrs John McCann and the late Mr McCann, of Timaru, was married to Gunner Oscar Allen Newton, 2nd N.Z.E.F., on furlough, son of Mr and Mrs O. E. Newton, Ashburton. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich officiated. The bride, who was escorted by her brother-in-law, Dr. John Rich, wore a model frock of powder blue marocaine, with matching accessories. She wore a cream straw hat with blue veiling and carried a bouquet of lilies, carnations and roses. Mrs E. A. Latham, sister of the bride, who- was matron-of-honour, wore dusky pink sheer and carried a bouquet of carnations and roses. Mr H. Johns, Wellington, carried out the duties of best man. The reception was held at Mrs Latham’s residence iii Essex Street, which was gay with bowls of beautiful sweet peas. The guests were received by Mrs McCann. She was attired in blue and white floral sheer, with a navy blue hat and wore a shoulder spray of white carnations. Gunner and Mrs Newton loft later for the south.
