STILL INCREASING
MOMENTUM OF SOVIET' OFFENSIVE ON 50-MILE FRONT WEST OF KIEV. APPROACH TO VITAL RAILWAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.10 p.m.) LONDON, December 27. The Russians, in the first, three days of their great new offensive in the Jitomir region, recaptured two-thirds of the ground which they were forced to yield during the Germans' five-week counteroffensive against the Kiev salient, says the British United Press Moscow correspondent. The momentum of the Russian offensive over its fifty mile front is still increasing. The Red Army is approaching the vital Korosten-Jitomir Railway. Detailing outstanding phases of the mighty, swaying battle for the Kiev bulge, the correspondent recalls that Von Hoth recaptured Jitomir during a protracted attempt to push the Russians back to the Dnieper. The Red Army massed anti-tank guns and finally brought the enemy to a standstill, after more than 1,000 German tanks had been knocked out of action in 35 days of furious fighting.
