RAIDS IN BURMA
ALLIED AIRCRAFT ACTIVE MANY TARGETS ATTACKED RAILWAY OBJECTIVES DAMAGED (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) RUGBY, December 27. A Delhi communique says: In Southern Burma R.A.F. bombers raided riverside installations at Sagaing on Tuesday night and attacked the railway junction at Ywataung on Christmas night. R.A.F. dive-bombers maintained attacks on the enemy at Mayu Peninsula, where our land forces improved their positions. Fighters 'carried out offensive sweeps along the railways south of Mandalay. In Northern Burma, in three days starting on Wednesday, fighters . and fighter-bombers of the U.S.A.A.F. bombed and strafed targets throughout Hukawng Valley, supporting ground troops striking at communications and supply lines. Effective attacks were made on Japanese concentrations at many places. On Wednesday and the following days R.A.F. dive-bombers attacked enemy positions in the Chin Hills. On Friday night R.A.F. medium bombers attacked railway communications at Mandalay, scoring hits on the station and engine sheds and starting a large fire. From all these operations two Allied pianos are missing.
