CHANGES IN COMMAND. GENERAL McNAUGHTON GRANTED LEAVE. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, December 27. Lieutenant - General McNaughton, Commander-in-Chief of the First Canadian Army in Britain, who was recently on the sick list, has advised the Canadian Government that he is physically unable to carry on his duties and asked to be relieved of the command. The Government, .in view of the circumstances and also the requirements of the impending operations, decided to grant General McNaughton several months’ leave. Lieutenant-General K. Stuart, Chief of the Canadian General Staff, pending the appointment of a successor to General McNaughton will act as commander of the Canadian army in Britain. The announcement, which was made by the Canadian Minister of Defence, added that the Canadian forces in the Mediterranean area have been increased to constitute a corps under Lieuten-ant-General H. D. G. Crcrar. General Stuart last May attended the meeting of the Pacific War Council in Washington at which Mr Churchill was present, and he also planned the Canadian participation in the attack on Ki ska, in the Aleutian Islands.
