CRITICISED IN INDIA

MR R. G. CASEY’S APPOINTMENT TO BENGAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) BOMBAY, December 26. Mr R. G. Casey’s appointment is an insult to India, said Pandit Kunzru, a prominent Liberal member of the Council of State. The country should register a vigorous protest against the appointment and the policy behind it. Indians, who were not considered fit for Australian citizenship, could not but take strong exception to the appointment, however eminent Mr Casey might be. When Australian officers were appointed to important positions in the Indian Army, enabling them to command Indian troops, the country strongly protested, yet Britain had appointed an Australian to exercise authority over 60,000.000 Indians as Governor of Bengal.
