VISITS TO HOSPITAL (To the Editor) Sir,—May I, through your paper, express the appreciation and thanks of the Matron of the Masterton Hospital to the members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, for regular visits to the Masterton Hospital and gifts to the patients throughout the year.—Yours, etc., NORMAN LEE, Managing Secretary, Wairarapa Hospital Board. Masterton, December 24.
EKETAHUNA BOROUGH OFFICE (To the Editor) Sir,—May I crave a little of your, valuable space to voice an emphatic protest against the conditions under which our' Town Clerk, Mr Wakelin, is expected to perform his duties. For the past twelve months the Municipal Office has been housed* in the iron shed which goes under the glorified name pf the Fire Station. It has no ventilation whatever, (he windows being fixed, and is rat-infested. During the winter months the Town Clerk had to contend with a smoking chimney and during the present hot spell has sweltered in a foul atmosphere. To my mind this state of affairs has gone on too long, and I ask the Mayor, Deputy Mayor (Dr Simmers) and councillors and Health Inspector what steps if any they propose to take to find a more suitable office for Mr Wakelin until such time as the Municipal Buildings have been fully restored, if ever. I wonder if anyone could enlighten me as to the cause of the delay in completing the building? When one realises that a Master ton builder, with a skeleton staff, has practically rebuilt half the town and erected the School Dental Clinic; also that the big Nireaha Dairy Factory has been rebuilt and is in full production, since the restoration work on the Council Chambers commenced, it makes one think there is something wrong somewhere. I would suggest that the Borough Office be moved to the. old County Building, if permission for its use can be obtained. —I am, etc., H. M. DANIEL. Eketahuna, December 22. LEASE=LEND (To the Editor) Sir, —In reply to the executive of the Masterton branch of the New Zealand Labour Party who did not sign their names: If Mr Nash considers leaselend debt not a debt, why does he keep on repaying? Why does he prate of reverse lease-lend? Why did the enthusiastic Mr Semple shout, “Under the lease-lend we don't owe them a razoo?” If, as the result- of the faulty misconception, we are to be the No. 1 economic casualty, should not the blunderer be the No. 1 political casualty?—l am, etc., L. T. DANIELL. Masterton, December 24.
