Sales tax receipts for October for New Zealand amounted to £1,036,327, which was £70,039 less than for September and £22,147 less than for October, 1942. The Wellington receipts were £344,610, compared with £366,734 in October, 1942.

Services Appreciated. Speaking at last night's public meeting at Eketahuna, Mr J. B. Carruthers, chairman of the Eketahuna County Council, said that politics aside, Mr J. Robertson had been of splendid assistance in furthering the needs of the district during his term of office as member for the Masterton electorate. Mr Robertson's hard work, he said, was fully appreciated.

Sale of Disabled Soldiers’ Goods. Good business was recorded yesterday at the sale of goods made by disabled soldiers in Masterton. The articles are being sold in the shop recently occupied by Messrs Krahagen and Chapman, Perry Street. It is intended to keep the shop open until all the goods are sold. The winner of a competition for an oak leather stool was Mr Ashley Jones, C/o “Puke To," Masterton. Bank of N.Z. Building. Work on the exterior of the Bank of New Zealand building in Queen Street is now almost finished but a considerable amount has yet to be done to the interior. The building, which was severely damaged in the earthquake of June, 1942, has been almost entirely rebuilt and when completed will be a practically new building. It is anticipated that it will be two months before the interior is finished. A special elec-trically-controlled heating system is to be installed. Professional Examinations. The following Masterton candidates have passed in the subjects named in connection with the University of New Zealand's accountancy professional examinations: —C. R. Shoosmith (Bookkeening and Accounts 1. and Company Law), J. W. Crook (Bookkeeping and Accounts I. and Secretarial Law), J. M. Cunningham (Bookkeeping and Accounts I, Mercantile Law, Stage I), W. ,H. Lee (Secretarial Law and Law of Bankruptcy). N. Stewart (Mercantile Law, Stage 1., Bookkeeping and Accounts 11., and Secretarial Law), Marie T. Stilburn passed in Bookkeeping, Stage 1., for certificate of proficiency purposes only.
