CRICKET
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Wairarapa Cricket Association’s general committee was held at the residence of.Mr and Mrs G. Peterson last night, Mr Sor-tain-Smith presiding, and Mr F. Dohnt, secretary of the Umpires’ Association, being present by invitation. Mattel’s in connection with the Wai-rarapa-Hawke’s Bay cricket match were discussed, and Messsr McMinn and Bellworthy were appointed umpires. After the meeting those present were entertained at supper by Mrs Peterson, who was thanked for her hospitality by Mr Sortain-Smith on behalf of the Wairarapa Cricket Association, and by Mr F. Dohnt on behalf of the Umpires’ Association. OLD RIVALS TO MEET. Over a long period of years, before the days when the present Mayor of Masterton (Mr T. Jordan), the late Bob Moss, Charlie Perry, Bert Waugh, “Dolly” Esson, the late Bill Redmond, the late Tom Hoar, Harry Moorhouse, the late Harry Ogier, Les Smart, and Bert Hart (now Sir Herbert Hart), played for the Wairarapa representatives, matches between Hawke s Bay and the local eleven provided strenuous and exciting contests back be yond the time when Jack Betts, who now resides in Masterton, was one of the best batsmen in the Wellington and Hawke’s Bay districts. The game on Monday between the old rivals promises to provide spectators with pjenty of action and interest, as the visitors have a strong team, and Wairarapa has one of the best combinations which has represented this district.
