Members of the Australian public are now carrying more than 138 million pounds in notes, or about 100 million pounds more than they carried before the war. During the first two weeks of December the Australian note issue was raised by 3{ millions, to more than 159 million pounds. Almost each week throughout the year the issue has been raised. ‘lt is now 40 millions more than it was a year ago. •
