ST. MATTHEW’S CHURCH

REBUILDING CAMPAIGN. CHRISTMAS DAY OFFERINGS. Three months ago today, on ’St. Matthew's Day, the Vestry of St. Matthew’s Parish launched the intensive campaign for raising funds for the rebuilding of the church destroyed by the earthquake. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich stated this morning that the response had been simply magnificent. Today the fund stands at £9055 15s sd, including promises. The objective of this campaign was to raise the fund to £lO,OOO by Christmas Day. That will enable the vestry to have plans for the new church prepared. On Christmas Day the campaign reaches its climax and the offerings at all services that day will be given to the Rebuilding Fund. That means that £945 will need to be given to reach the present objective. Some years ago St. Matthew’s Parish raised £750 on a single day. The architect hopes to be in a position to give a close estimate of the cost of the new church early next year. It is expected that this will be about £15,000.
