HOLIDAY TRAFFIC
FEWER PEOPLE TRAVELLING POSITION ON WAIRARAPA LINE So far there has been a marked falling off in the number of passengers travelling on the Wairarapa line. This is in contrast to the position usually ruling during the week before Christmas. The smaller number of people travelling is attributed to the difficulty in securing accommodation. Usually, during the week before Christmas, an exceptionally large number of people are travelling but the decline this year, as far as the Wairarapa is concerned, is most noticeable. There are prospects of traffic on Friday, however, being much heavier, as there are four special trains to the Wairarapa from Wellington on that day and also a special train from the Wairarapa to Wellington.
On Christmas Day the usual express trains and rail cars will run. The Main Trunk trains are all well booked.
The Road Services Department report that bookings between Masterton and Wellington are fairly heavy. The number of passengers that can be carried is restricted.
