LORD MOUNTBATTEN SPEAKS TO TROOPS. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, December 18. Admiral Mountbatten, during a three-day tour of the Burma front, addressed troops: “We carried out a plan for finishing off the Italians. Germany comes next. After that our vast resources will be concentrated against Japan. The war- will not end till Japan sues for peace. When all the resources you need arrive, I believe that the war against Japan will move quickly. Meanwhile, we must keep fighting against the Japanese to prevent him getting sufficiently dug in to build up strength to exploit the occupied territories.” Most of the forward British positions east of the Mayo ridge on the Arakan front have been advanced to three miles north of Buthidaung by successful local actions, says Reuter’s New Delhi correspondent.
