DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL BREAKING UP CEREMONY (“Times-Age" Special.) The Featherston District High School held its breaking up ceremony in the Town Hall yesterday. The chairman of the school committee apologised for the absence of the mayor and welcomed Miss Card, mayoress. In presenting the report of the year s activities the headmaster, Mr J. M. Jones, thanked all who had helped in furthering the work of the school and spoke of friendliness and co-opera-tion he had met with. He advised the children to avoid selfishness and treat others as they would like to be treated. The cups for dux of the school were presented by Miss Card to Barbaia Robbins (girls) and lan Muir (boys). In the secondary division the following pupils were successful in the 1942 Public Service examination:—Patricia Halpin, Douglas Johnston, Prudence Peene. Fay Rasmussen. University Entrance: Margaret Algie, Lewis Benton, Lex Halpin, Murray Hunter. School art: Margaret Algie, Lewis Benton, L. Halpin, M. Hunter, Myra Cole. Home gardens: Eric Higgison, Gordon Burt, Douglas Bracken, Graham Fenwick. Twenty-eight swimming certificates were awarded during the first term; 11 pupils swam 1 mile. 5 880yds, 9 220 yds and the remaining three 50yds. Miss Card also presented two cups to M. Henderson and the certificates and prizes gained by the .members of the calf club. Christmas Carol Service The Christmas carol service arranged by the Wartime United Service Committee for Sunday evening should be very popular. The Rt Rev H. St. B. Holland will be the speaker and the combined choirs will be under the direction of Mr F. Clarke. Home and School Association The Home and School Association held a successful dance in the Town Hall on Thursday night, Mrs Ashton

provided the music and Mr C. Buck was M.C. A Christmas ham was won by Mrs A. Ashworth, and Christmas cakes, donated by Mrs Neville, were won by Messrs‘Alan Burt and D. Holland. COSY THEATRE “MR DAVIS.” , An outstanding espionage thriller, “Mr Davis,” will bo shown tonight, with Mervyn Johns, Nova Pilbeam and Basil Sydney in the chief roles.
