LANSDOWNE SCHOOL

BREAK-UP CEREMONY

YESTERDAY’S GATHERING.

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES.

There was a large attendance at the Lansdowne School break-up ceremony yesterday afternoon. In the absence due to illness of the chairman of the school committee, Mr A. V. Faulkner, Mr J. McGregor presided, and welcomed the new headmaster, Mr R. A. Robbie. The prizes were presented to the children by Mrs Robbie. The children presented a splendid programme which reflected credit on themselves and their teachers.

Mr H. E. Pither spoke of the splendid appointments of the school and its grounds. Mr R. C.,Drummond, for many years headmaster of Lansdowne School, said the school was opened in 1909, and he had not missed a break-up ceremony since then. In 1909, on the first Arbor Day, he had planted the beautiful trees of which all were so proud. Mr Robbie said the school was one of the finest he had ever taught at. He said that but for the weather the ceremony would have been held out of doors. He thanked the committee and Mr Pither for prizes, the Faulknor Bros, for cups, Mr C. K. Long for subscriptions to the Geographical Magazine, the committee for its help and consideration, the Trust Lands Trust, the caretaker, Mr Dwyer, for his splendid work, the staff, and the parents for supporting the school functions. He stressed the need of co-operation between school and home. A splendid display of work executed by the children attracted attention and a produce stall transacted good '.business. Thanks are expressed to the 'parents who gave and'bought so generously. Afternoon tea was served.
