LANSDOWNE SCHOOL
STANDARD OF CHILDREN’S WORK REPORTED TO BE VERY GOOD. The monthly meeting of the Lansdowne School Committee was held last evening, Mr J. McGregor presiding. The following members were also present: Messrs C. K. Long, J. Donovan, J. G. Dagg, J. G. Mackay, R. E. Baker, C. H. Jarvis and R. A. Robbie (headmaster). A much appreciated grant was received from the Trust Lands Trust. The headmaster reported that the present roll number was 280 and the attendance good. The grounds were in good order and the hedges had been trimmed. Reference was made to the excellent manner in which the caretaker carried out his work. ‘The annual survey had been completed and 'the general standard of the work was good. The sum of £6 16s 9d from 19 boxes had been collected for the Dr. Barnado’s Home and Young Helpers League. The committee desires to thank Mrs Bcrney for her kindness in entertaining the children concerned at her home. Two members have been appointed to represent the committee on the newly-formed District Schobls’ Committee. A considerable amount of paper has been collected for the packing of parcels sent overseas by the Red Cross Society. During the month Mr J. McGregor visited the school and he had done very useful work in traffic education. His methods and personality were excellent. The breaking-up ceremony will be held on Wednesday, commencing at 1.30 p.m. Parents and others interested are cordially invited to attend.
Seasonal greetings were exchanged between the committee and the headmaster and staff.
A motion of sympathy was passed with the chairman, Mr A. V. Faulknor, who was at present in hospital.
