BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING EXTENSION OF CRICKET STREET SUGGESTED The monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was held in Masterton last night. The chairman, Mr H. P. Hugo, presided and there were also present Messrs J. Macfariane Laing, E. G. Eton, A. Krahagen, R. Page and the secretary, Mr A. W. McKenzie. Letters were received from a number of schools thanking the Trust for grants. The Trust solicitors advised that a number of lease renewals would come under the' Land Sales and Servicemen’s Settlement Act.
The Public Works Department wrote accepting a lease of the old technical school building. It was reported that good progress was being made with demolition work, after which the building would be converted to a single story structure.
Mr Daniell made suggestions for the opening up of the area behind the old “Daily Times” building in Church Street. He proposed that the Trust should dedicate a strip of land to the Borough Council to enable Cricket Street to be extended to Church Street. He suggested that Cricket Street should be called Chancery Lane and that the sites opened up would be specially suitable for the erection of offices. ' Mr Daniell’s suggestions were ' favourably received and he was thanked for his enterprise.
The secretary was congratulated on the splendid work he had carried out during the year. The meeting concluded with an interchange of seasonal greetings.
