CHILDREN’S REARING COMPETITIONS EKETAHUNA AND TARARUA. LIST OF PRIZE-WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the Eketahuna Domain the annual judging of the Eketahuna and Tararua Calf Club's competitions took place. The judging of the Eketahuna group (consisting of schools from Hastwells to the south and Kakariki to the north) took place in the morning. The judging in connection with the Tararua Club, comprising of all schools in the Bush district, was held in the afternoon. According to the judge, Mr J. Bryant, of Ruawhata, the entries for the various classes were well up to the high standard of past competitions. He was of the opinion that the youthful competitors were benefiting greatly from the information on the rearing and handling of calves given them in j past competitions. The president of the Eketahuna group, Mr F. Goggin, thanked all who had assisted in making the gathering such a success. He especially thanked the ladies for having provided lunch and also pupils of the Eketahuna District High School and the primary schools who had acted as. stewards, etc. The Mayor, Mr W. Olsen, opened the proceedings and stressed the value of the competitive spirit in raising the standard of entries in the various calf clubs. Mr J. B. Carruthers, chairman of the Eketahuna County Council, referred to the fact that the dairying industry was going to play a large part in the rehabilitation of the soldier when the war was over, and the experience gained by the various clubs would prove of immense value when that time arrived. Mr G. Brown, president of the Pahiatua group, presented the prizes to the successful competitors of the Eketahuna group. Mr G. H. Mackley, M.P., presented the prizes to the winners of the Tararua group, and announced his intention of donating essay prizes for the senior and junior students in the Tararua district. Faulkner Cup (Jersey-cross): Colin Drysdale (Rongokokako), 1; lan Drysdale, (Rongokokako), 2; Alister Drysdale (Rongokokako),’ 3. School group (3 calves for condition): Kakariki. School group for type (3 calves): Kakariki. Children under 11 years of age: Julie Wilton (Hastwells), 1; Hugh Ryan (Eketahuna), 2;‘ Owen Farrow (Eketahuna). 3. Girls only: Elaine Cooper (Hamua), 1; Rose Duffy (Eketahuna), 2; Dixie Hunt (Hukanui). 3. Holstein: Ronald Peters (Hamua), 1. TARARUA GROUP. Champion calf (Brockett Cup): Margorie Mangin (Mangamutu). Type class (W.F.C.A. Cup): Ross Matson (Mangamutu) ,1; Valerie Phillips (Pahiatua District High School), 2; Barbara Mangin (Mangamutu), 3.
