Mrs P. B. Benham, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs W. G. Lamb, Herbert Street, Masterton.

Brigadier Caporn, Wellington, is visiting the Cecelia Whatman Salvation Army Home, Masterton. Mrs E. G. Norman and Mrs Gardner, Cole Street, Masterton, have returned from a visit to Christchurch.

Miss E. M. Roys, of Masterton, who has been on extended leave, has resumed duties at the Pahiatua Hospital. A London message announces the death at Berne of Professor Alfred Vogt, a world-famous ophthalmic surgeon, aged 64 years. In 1936 he operated on Mr de Valera. Mr and Mrs Thomsen, Bannister Street, Masterton, have received cabled advice from their son, L.A.C. Roy (“Bob”) Thomsen, that he has arrived safe and well at his destination. The death occurred in Wellington on Friday of Lieutenant Elliot Myers, son of Mr John Myers, The Terrace, Wellington. Lieutenant Myers was born in Wellington and received his education at Wellington College. He was in business in Christchurch when the war broke out, and almost at once offered his services. He went to Greece with the New Zeaalnd forces and there was wounded in both legs, one having to be amputated. Death was attributable to heart failure.

A most enjoyable evening was spent by the Maori Girls’ Interhouse team at the residence of Mr and Mrs Askew, Lansdowne. The team excelled itself with its action songs and Miss Waireka Nini was in demand for her popular songs. Mrs Naiera, another member of the team, also sang and her items were greatly appreciated. After a buffet supper had been served Mr Askew, on behalf of the team, thanked Mr Nuttall, the coach, for all he had done for the team and presented him with a Maori mat. Mr Nuttall thanked the girls 'for their splendid gift. The leader of the team, Miss Nini, presented Mr Askew with a poi-poi as a token of his services. Mr Askew thanked the girls for their kindly thought; Both Mr Nuttall and Mr Askew were accorded musical honours.
