VISIT TO MALTA
MADE BY PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 10.2 a.m.) RUGBY, December 10. President Roosevelt arrived in Malta by air, with an escort of twenty Lightnings and Spitfires, says a message from the island. After inspecting a guard of honour composed of 100 R.A.F. men. 50 naval ratings, 50 Marines and 100 United Kingdom and Maltese troops, Mr Roosevelt drove round the island. Time did not permit him to visit Valetta Viscount Gort, Governor of Malta, replying to an address presented by President Roosevelt when he got off the plane, said it was a day Malta would never forget.
